In the meantime, I wanted to let readers know that Ed Brenegar has posted his interview with me about stepping back and taking time to rethink a career.
This is a popular topic now, especially with Seth Godin’s new book The Dip
being released this month. (What’s a Dip? Think St. John of the Cross’s Dark Night of the Soul for business types.) Like anyone on a path worth taking, I’ve gone through my share of dips and dark nights. And that’s what Ed Brenegar and I talked about. Read it here.
Ed is a columnist for the Asheville Citizen-Times. (This interview was also the subject of his column today – which officially marks the first time I’ve ever landed the Business section of any newspaper.) Ed is also a speaker and consultant in leadership strategy and organizational vision. In my own words — he steps in when things are going bad in a business (or team, or church, or community) and uses practical, spiritual, personal development, and business principles to help the whole wagon get back on course. (He also happens to be a great father to his teenage kids.) We met by blog. And then we met in person here in Asheville.

I really liked the interview. I can relate to the stepping back thing – my problem is every time I step back, I end up changing careers. I’ve been through 3 careers in 20 years and in the middle of a transition into another (as yet unknown direction). The good thing is I’ve developed a lot of courage when it comes to moving in new directions. I still haven’t figured out what I want to do when I grow up.

Excellent interview! BTW, your DVD is terrific. As a former drummer wanna-be, I had always thought that only Joe Morello was really able to solo properly. Now I know I was wrong. Your guy (whose name I missed) is superb, and the other two are at least as good. What a tight and tasty band you have.

Today, as the most incredible massage therapist in the world was working on my body, I shared with her how grateful I am for my life. As I sit at my computer, I can look out on my deck (I decorated it with tube lights along the bottom of the hand rail) and I feel so rich. I have wonderful veggies growing and I feel blessed to be able to have a garden. I’m feeling overcome with gratitude and want you to know how grateful I am that you are in my life. Thank you.
You rocked on Sunday…as usual! I love your new song! I just bought a shopping bag that says “Well behaved women rarely make history”. I don’t intend to make history, but I sure don’t intend to behave, either! (Another of the things I’m grateful for in my life…I don’t have to behave!) Great interview, Christine! David and I are all about “leap and the net will appear” these days more than ever as he figures out what’s next since retiring last week.
