I am so excited to be presenting a workshop in Chattanooga, TN called Live Your Healthiest Life. I’ll be co-facilitating this event in Chattanooga with best-selling author, life coach, and motivational speaker Jennifer Louden. Jennifer writes a fantastic column for Martha Stewart’s Body&Soul Magazine. (She also has a great blog!) The performance is on May 25th at Chattanooga’s Kosmos House (it’s open to the public), and the day-long retreat is on May 26th. Please visit my tour dates page for more info.
Today, however, I want to alert you (albeit rather late in the day!) to Freedom from Self-Improvement Day. This holiday has been created by Jennifer Louden herself. You can go visit the Freedom from Self-Improvement Day site, and you can send a friend or sister or parent one of the postcards above, and read all about how perfect you already are! So, stop shoulding all over yourself and join in on the love.
Here’s a note from Jennifer:
Ever since I learned of International Talk like a Pirate Day (September 19th), I’ve wanted to create a holiday that felt as fun. Sitting in meditation one day, the idea came to me: what if we all collectively gave up on being any different than we are, just for 24 hours? What a perfect holiday for a me to create? After all, I’m the perfect paradox: my mission in life is to help people feel how perfectly okay they are and I constantly struggle with evaluating myself for everything I’m not doing or didn’t do right.
I hope you’ll celebrate with me and invite all your most self-critical and hard working friends to join in. Send a few Freedom From e-coupons, sign our declaration, download our PDF of ideas for celebrating (and send that to your friends too), and post how you are getting into the groove on our special blog. And while you are at it, enjoy our celebrity line-up of short audios to inspire you to slip into the Freedom From mood!
Can you feel the lightness?

I like that idea! How do you create a holiday? I want to start National Surprise Day, or National Fun Day.
Hey Christine!
What a great idea, thanks for passing Jennifer Louden’s info. along. And it comes at a great time with your Take Action Challenge…sorta like “take the action to be kind and love yourself”
As far as your earlier post about the word Blog (I’m glad the conference was a good experience for you by the way), I’m not a big fan of the actual word Blog…sounds like an icky word to me. I haven’t announced myself yet as a “blogger” because I’m secretly afraid that I might jumble a few letters and call myself a “booger”! haha
I know you’re a big fan of accronymns, so I’ll have to rack my noggin a bit and think of a creative accronymn for Blog.
P.S. The DVD is great!!!
What a lovely thought! I’ll be ready for next year. *Although*… I’ve been in a space, lately, of freeing myself from self-improvement. I’m just accepting, and knowing that when it’s time to change, it’s time… This was brought on by re-reading There Is Nothing Wrong With You by Cheri Huber. She also has a new book out, which I found on her site, that’s about Compassionate Self-Discipline (which is something you emanate, Christine!)
Genius!
As the Brits might say, “brilliant!”
Happy Birthday! I’ll see you at Swannanoa Gathering. K
I’m late, but a Very Happy Birthday to you…
Wow, how is it we’re just meeting, when we know so many of the same people? Jen and I haven’t ‘officially’ met, but we’re becoming online acquaintances -> friends really quick.
How cool.
