Word of the Year: Abundance

Written by Christine Kane

Word of the Year: AbundanceNote: December is Word-of-the-Year Month at Christine’s Blog.  As we roll into another New Year, each day will feature a new guest blogger who chose one word as a way of setting intention for her whole year.  Today’s guest is Kathy Troidle.

My word of the year was “abundance”.

It was particularly poignant for us this year as we embarked on a very expensive renovation to our home – at the same time that the housing market did a dive.

Focusing on the abundance helped me over the rough times of liquidating most of our savings to pay for the renovations. It has been scary at times – especially when the loan we applied for didn’t work out.

The day the bad news on the loan came in 0% interest credit card offers magically appeared. Abundance is ours, we have found a way to complete our renovations and the house now represent our wealth.

We deserve to live in the wonderful place that is almost finished. We will find a way to pay off the credit card debt we have incurred after the loan fell through – or get another loan via a refinance. I have no doubt it will all work out and abundance will be my word for the forseeable future!

I think you take on a BIG word for a lot of us. Even without these more unsure economic times, many of us carry around a lot of baggage about ‘deserving’ abundance. The more this is spoken about, the more the fear can be addressed and set aside. great post.

Hi Kathy,

Great view from your renovated home! Looks peaceful, like abundance abounds in the form of nature and fresh air and water. A great attitude to have and word to focus on as the fear of scarcity swirls around us. Thx G.

Thanks brandi – abundance is a big word. And releasing the fear is exactly what focus on this word has done for me. We’re all going to make it through this time. It’s all about our attitude as we do it.

Guilietta – yea, the view is pretty great. We are really enjoying the feeling of abundance our home is providing. We entertained masses over Thanksgiving for three days straight – first siblings and their families, then cousins and their families and finally our great neighbors. So we’ve been able to share the abundance as well. It feels really really good.

The word abundance says so much about having that which we desire in our lives. Thinking abundantly, and just knowing that we’ll have what we need – makes it easier to give of ourselves and really embrace whatever the world throws at us. And it sounds like this has been a great year for you, Kathy, one in which abundance has helped to define what the year meant – very cool!
