My DVD Wins a 2007 Telly Award

Written by Christine Kane

My DVD, Live at the Diana Wortham Theatre won a 2007 Telly Award for Entertainment Production. Some of you may be thinking, “Huh? What’s that?” (Don’t worry – I didn’t know either.) Telly Awards were explained to me this way by someone in the film industry: “It’s like an Emmy Award. Only it’s for local and independent productions. It’s really quite prestigious.”

And so it is.

The truth is that Kim Ryan White and her company, Viewfinders Inc, are responsible for the award. (Let’s be honest. I just showed up and played.) Kim is one of those brilliant women who makes me tilt my head, RCA Victor dog like, and think, “Can she really be that cool and together and business savvy?” I’m telling you, the woman rocks. She masterminded the whole production and editing and every other last detail. (Then she lured me into the editing suite and tempted me with slick and beautiful effects. She’d show me clips of rendered effects until I was glazed over with desire. THEN she’d tell me how much extra they cost. The editing suite is an opium den.)

The Telly Awards website says this:

The Telly Awards honor the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions. Since 1978, our mission has been to strengthen the visual arts community by inspiring, promoting, and supporting creativity. The 27th annual Telly Awards received over 13,000 entries from all 50 states and 5 continents.

Way to go Christine.

Just curious…Where’s the link love for your producer/editor Kim? Might be nice in case someone wants to hire her to do their own Telly award winning production :)

Hey, Christine – HUGE congratulations! I’ve been meaning to get that DVD and now I know I need to get one soon. But the shopping cart works fine and the checkout doesn’t work at all – so after an hour of trying different browsers, I’m using this as the only way I can see to get in touch with you and say – “HELP” I want to by your DVD!!!!

Christine! Congratulations! Annnnddd… you didn’t just show up and play. You showed up *as yourself*, you added an interview that goes into your thoughts about creativity, etc. – you were YOU! And no one else could have done that.

And i agree with Caren– you were so you (going by your blogs…your creativity and spirit shine…) and i know…there are more accolades on the way..

Well showing up and playing is, after all, most of the whole thing. You can be the best effects (or sound or whatever) person in the world, and while you can make it better, you can’t make it great. That’s up to the musician (and the songwriter and since you’re both, well I guess you get double kudos). Congrats! Here’s to many more! (and lookie – I actually made it onto your blog! by way of my google notice on your name)

Congratulations, Christine! And I actually DO know what a Silver Telly is (I know a guy who won one for a DVD on the First Amendment). This is quite an honor and yes, it really IS a big deal! No need to shortchange yourself there–you and Kim should stand tall and proud.

Bravo all around!! The DVD is truly fabulous and I’m so glad to hear it’s been recognized formally as such by an independent group….not that we, your devoted fans, are biased or anything! :-)

Christine -
We were there and pre-ordered the DVD. I thought it would be “an archive” (big deal). When it finally arrived, we were blown away. I felt (since we were in the “nose bleed” seats the night of the concert) that I had finally seen it for the first time (again). As much as we loved it that night, the DVD just compounded it! Congratulations on all you do in this world! You are amazing, girl!
