Well, well.
Now, this is fun.
Doug over at AVeryFineLine introduced me to an uber-hip new web tool.
It’s a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)…
for BLOGS!
And, according to many bloggers, it’s pretty accurate.
I typed in Lisa Call’s blog, for example — and the result seemed right on. (Let me know, Lisa!) Â Same with Steve Pavlina.
However, I typed in BeMyRecordLabel (my other blog) – and it didn’t type me correctly. It ranked me as an ESFP – which is close – but I’m a VERY strong “N.” I’ll forgive the mistake.
Now, before you rush over there and type in your blog’s address, you should know a few things:
1 – If you are like me and have a website like www.christinekane.com – but your blog is www.christinekane.com/blog, then it won’t work. Your blog has to be the main web address.
2 – If you don’t know the MBTI personality type system, it might not be as fun.
3 – As far as I know, there is no tool like this created for the ennegram! 🙂
Here ya go! Have at it! Come back and let us all know your blog type and whether or not it’s accurate…

Hi there! I came across this post through my Google Alerts for the word “MBTI.” This may or may not be of interest to you, but I write a blog about the MBTI and wrote a post about how Typealyzer is basically junk. I know lots of people are checking it out for entertainment sake- and that’s totally cool…but I hope you don’t confuse those “blog type” results for your own personality type. Anyway, I won’t go into why the site is junk here, I just wanted to let you know if you wanted to learn more, here’s the original post: http://www.thembtiblog.com/2008/11/websites-that-ruin-my-day.html.
I also have a discussion in the comments section with the creator of the Typealyzer site.

weee! it’s calling me ‘the thinker’ 🙂 hee hee. i’m so much more the ‘idealist’ but maybe not so when i write…cool cool..loved that! thank u muchly…..i get your newsletter as an email…is it attached at all to your website/blog? just wondering cuz the last few times the photos you describe aren’t showin up. could be my computer…it’s old and i’m working my way to a new one. loved the gratitude post…..fab. true. so very. 🙂 glad the show sold out. …..hugs and glad you’re home for a wee bit. Tre 😉 happy thanksgiving to ya too….also really happy the recent retreat was so wonderful…surely they’re each uniquely so…grateful you do those…and so grateful to hear bout em. hugs and stay cozy….
Kathy
ok, so it came up ESFP for our blog too …. and I too am a very strong N. But it is a pretty cool tool! We did just come off a weekend of entertaining the masses and I’m ready to retreat into our own world again for awhile. I think my I (and my blog’s!) is coming on stronger as I age.
Sharon
Fun…. my blog came up as INFP, and I am a INTP. That makes sense bc I get a little more woowoo on my blog than in my day to day life 🙂

ISFP – The Artists
mmmm….heeeheee…not that I would think that…but it can be true teehee xx
Carolyn
I personally com out as an INTJ. I have 2 blogs, one was analyzed as an ESFP and the other as an ENTJ. Since once is about computer programming and the other about food, arts, entertainment etc. I would expect them to be very different. My personal evaluation is supposed to be a combination of the two. I studied Fine Arts and Computer programming.

moi: intj
blog: esfp
nevermind.
Sunrise Sister
Always fun to take a test…..my Myers Briggs is ENTJ – blog name’s type is ISFP. A bit off but the summary comes up pretty close – I like being categorized in the ARTISTS category.

Well, not so bad after all — I’m “A Doer,” an ESTP. I can live happily with that!
Lisa Call
I ran into the typealyzer when I got back from the retreat also!
It rates my blog as ESTP
Which maybe sounds like me being a 3 and all. But it’s not. I’m definitely an INTJ (I score strongly INJ and more close to the middle on T). So it got 1 out of 4 and that one is less certain than the other 3.
Funny and really very accurate. Because my blog is about exploring and expanding so I look to not get stuck in normal thinking patterns. So I guess this means I’m fairly successful at doing that 🙂
BiblioMom
Neat! I’ve taken many M-B tests and I’m a very strong INFP. According to this I’m an ISFP. It’s pretty accurate though.
Lisa – Life is Like a Box of Legos
Thanks for sharing the link – I think the analysis – ESTP is fairly accurate. My blog, http://www.lifeislikeaboxoflegos.com is heavy on feelings with a pinch of logic – ok, admittedly, it’s my own logic, but logic nonetheless. I will definitely pass this on! Happy Thanksgiving!
Amy
Christine –
It’s too bad that it didn’t work on your blog – I think it would be hilarious to see what it has to say in late December after your guest blogger period. 😉
Mine was off for the S/N characteristic, too, as it was for several of the commenters. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Christine,
That was fun! I am an ENFJ and my blog was typed as an INTP which they describe as “The logical and analytical type. They are especialy attuned to difficult creative and intellectual challenges and always look for something more complex to dig into. They are great at finding subtle connections between things and imagine far-reaching implications. ” Given that i am a Two on the Enneagram, it looks like my blog has evolved more than I have ( i.e. developing my thinking side and becoming more introverted which takes me into my Four heart space).
Thanks for a highly entertaining distraction!
trista
Ugh! I am an INFJ, and my blog is a ISTP.
KMG
Ha! While amusing, it failed to type me or my blogs accurately. I cannot imagine anyone in their right mind calling splarks.com “sensitive and compassionate.” Maybe it’s because all the stories have morals …. bizarre, twisted morals …
But thanks for posting. That was fun!
Jul
Apparently my blog is my alter-ego since it is an ESFP and I have always been an INTJ. Interesting…
Kate
This is so cool. I am an INFP. I have four different blogs for different purposes and I know I present certain aspects of myself in them. In two of them I was an ESFP….performer and in one I was an ESTP…a doer. I think this is accurate. The fourth blog? The typalizer determined it was in the Thai language which they don’t have yet.
Christine Kane
jannie – i’d hate to see you after discovering your enneagram number! we do a whole segment on this at my retreats – and everyone is typically in total shock when they find out how “busted” they are! (don’t worry – no one cries!) 🙂
Beth
Mine could hardly be more wrong. My blog (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendID=194912754 ) came in as ESTP. I’m an incredibly consistent INTJ (okay, so it got one of my letters right . . .) on every MBTI test I’ve ever taken.
On the other hand, my blog is entirely about my music career, and there are many other aspects of me. So it’s intriguing to thing that perhaps the music part of me has a whole different personality type . . .

my personal blog comes out as ESTP. to quote:
“The active and play-ful type. They are especially attuned to people and things around them and often full of energy, talking, joking and engaging in physical out-door activities.
The Doers are happiest with action-filled work which craves their full attention and focus. They might be very impulsive and more keen on starting something new than following it through. They might have a problem with sitting still or remaining inactive for any period of time.”
this doesn’t sound like a very accurate description of me to me. for instance, i tend to be happiest when i’m doing next to nothing, or reading, writing, playing board games… i think the typealizer is picking up on some of the entries about doing arts and craft shows around the area. that’s about it in terms of being overly active.
my political blog came out as ISTP. again, to quote:
“The independent and problem-solving type. They are especially attuned to the demands of the moment are masters of responding to challenges that arise spontaneously. They generally prefer to think things out for themselves and often avoid inter-personal conflicts.
The Mechanics enjoy working together with other independent and highly skilled people and often like seek fun and action both in their work and personal life. They enjoy adventure and risk such as in driving race cars or working as policemen and firefighters.”
this sounds a bit more accurate on that writing to me.

Jannie Funster
Well, that is just too cool. Or maybe not, as I wept for weeks over my Meyers-Briggs test a few years back. (Oh, the shock to my fragile defense mechanisms.) I’ll for sure give it a whirl and come back and give you the exciting news.
Alison
Christinekane.com came out as ESFJ. (“…tend to see things as either right or wrong, good or bad. They tend to be traditional and value their friends and family the most… The Socializers are down-to-earth, practical people”)
INTPcentral.com came out as ISTP.
Two more INFPs both came out as ESFP (both using LiveJournal accounts).
TypologyCentral.com (which has several hundred NF members, several hundred NT members, and a few dozen SJs and SPs) came out as ISTJ.
I’m skeptical. 🙂
Jen
I’m definitely ENFP, but I got the same result as you did. =) There’s something about us intuitive types it just doesn’t like!
MC
My blog’s MBTI is opposite mine except for the “E.” Mine is ENTJ and my blog is ESFP. Maybe I’m a closet ESFP?
Mark Baker-Wright
Apparently my blog is an ISTP. I’m not sure how true that is of me personally (well, the “I” I’m pretty sure about…), but it definitely seems to reflect what I write about on the blog quite nicely.
Leslie
Yikes! My blog has my husband’s personality!
It’s INTP while I’m ENTJ (though just barely an E and with my T sometimes leaning toward F… But the N’s always and N and the J’s always a J).
I think Sandy’s got a good point. We present only a part of ourselves on our blogs, and present it in a way that we think is right for the context. I wouldn’t expect that to be thoroughly indicative of the full range of our being.
Lance
It’s been a while since I’ve done the MBTI tests – so I don’t know what I’m classified as “officially”. That said, my blog came back as INFP – and it seems pretty accurate. I’m amazed at how fast it comes back with a response. In fact, I’ve tried it a couple of times, and even from different computers – do I have trust issues??? Anyway, same results each time. And I do find that eerie, also. How does it know???
Christine Kane
sandy – that’s a good point. it may be that we are all “presenting” ourselves on our blogs a bit differently. (and then again, it may be that computer code doesn’t come close to determining the soul of a human! 🙂 )
Emily
It was close, but a bit off. My blog was an INTP and I come out as a INFP. It was fun to see how it compared 🙂
Rhiannon
Wow – very intriguing. I have heard of, but do not know my MBTI type. My blog came out as ESFP which did surprise me a little ( at least the category of “Performers”). Some of the detailed comments are spot on though – rather spooky.
I then read the “about” section , where the developers talk about what they are doing with all this. And, there, they do talk about people with different blogs having different results for different blogs. This made a lot of sense to me as I have set a definite “tone” for my blog.
I checked a few other blogs of people I know personally and their results did seem pretty close too. Thanks – was fun to try it out.
Pippa
Wow, spot on! ESFP.
That is eerie… It is certainly true of my blog and also me.
Alison
Of my friends who have confirmed their MBTI types and keep blogs, here are the results:
INFP male: ISTP blog
ENFJ female: ISFP blog
2nd ENFJ female: ISFP blog
Penelope Trunk (http://blog.penelopetrunk.com/) also is a professed ENTJ; her blog came out as ISTP.
Sandy
I have heard about this! I checked it out, and I come out the same as you do (ESFP), but I am a ENTP with my myers-briggs type, and that is spot on! What I find fascinating about this is that if it is accurate, then I might be writing and presenting myself in a different way than I tend to think about things. Very interesting indeed.
