On Filling the Well - Christine Kane

I just got off the phone with Kathy, one of my best friends in the world. It’s her birthday. And I had to find the one place in Hatteras Village where there was enough cell phone signal to call her.  (It also happens that there’s free wi-fi in this same spot!)

Anyway, Kathy asked me how my first day of vacation was. And I told her the truth.  All I’ve done is sleep.  This led us to a conversation about filling the well, taking time away, and the difference between Feeding Yourself and Distracting Yourself. I said, “Wow. This could be a good blog post!”

But not today.

Or this week.

This week I’m taking time to fill the well, feed myself and – apparently – sleep a lot!

In the meantime, thank you for being my reader! I so appreciate this community. I’ll post on Tuesday after Labor Day!

Enjoy your well earned break. Thanks for the continued inspiration. *Wave* from Tallinn. A working trip for me, but punctuated with lots of loitering in cafes.

When I was 19 I met a wise writing student who said in essence: there is no writer’s block, there are just fallow times and fertile times. May we continue to hold space for the fallow times. Thanks for the reminder!

Congratulations on letting the siren song of blogging fade away and concentrating on what’s important to you right now. I know that’s not always an easy thing for me. 🙂

Thank you for this. I hope you are having a great time re-filling your well. What a great concept. I have been very busy and have been trying to figure out why I haven’t felt like doing anything for the last couple of days. Maybe that means it’s time to sit still and fill my well for a bit – without beating myself up for it. Thanks again for the reminder that this is important!

This is something I am oh so familiar with, Christine. When I finally finished my thesis and handed it in I literally slept for 2 weeks! Have never felt so in need of filling that well – don’t know if I ever will again, in fact 😉
Wishing you a wonderfully restful week & I look forward to your return

Exactly! We get so proud of ourselves for being bizzy that we forget the importance of sitting still.
    Enjoy and refresh!

    Beautiful phhoto, by the way!

Thank you for the reminder! If we don’t feed and nurture ourselves and take time to breathe, it becomes vwery easy to reach that point where we are so depleted that we cannot nurture anyone else, and then need alot of nurturing from others! (Learned that one the hard way). Enjoy your vacation and will look forward to more posts!

Filling the well is as important as everything else we do…actually it’s what fuels us to do the rest.

Enjoy yours to the fullest, Christine!
